Work-Family Balance

Work-family balance doesn’t just happen – it takes some planning and forethought.

If we fail to plan, we plan to fail. So the right way to have a balance is to plan ahead and find time to make sure we give our family the time they need and deserve. Here are some ideas what to do..

Family Dates and Family Nights
Block out time for regular family time - game nights or regular dinner together. Be committed and sure to let the kids know it’s important to keep the dates.

Family Vacation
Find out that window of opportunity when the kids are having holiday and both parents are able to take leave, book a resort holiday or a short drive up to Malaysia, whatever it is, guard it like the holy grail.

Set & Manage Workplace Expectations
Find ways to communicate and help your co-workers understand that your work is important but family commitments are equally important to you. There is no 1st or 2nd priority but both having high priority. Find out what are your company’s benefits for parents, like flexi working hours, child care leave, etc.. Make use of the benefits to your own good!

Buy a Small Present
A small gift will show the kids you are thinking of them even when you are working.

Send Text Messages or Emails
Don’t be surprised that in this generation, kids are very open to text messages. A simple sms can let them know you are thinking of them or missing them. Tell them who you are meeting in the morning, what you are eating during lunch.
