Fright Nites @ Sentosa 4D AdventureLand

Event

For the records, I am not a ‘horror’ fan. My most disliked movies and shows are those with scary vampires and horror sound tracks. So when my wife passed over this event opportunity with Sentosa 4D AdventureLand, I was not sure why I agreed to attend. I am quite sure I was not thinking for that moment.

Here I am, still alive writing this post to tell you my experience with horror and how much I enjoyed it!

As the name of the event suggested, it was a haunted trial of unexpected terror. Journeying through a night of mind blowing 4D experiences, where vengeful spirits, diabolic demons and cannibalistic zombies await.

Sentosa 4D AdventureLand presents “Fright Nites”: Escape or be imprisoned forever in “Trapped” – a trial of unexpected terror.

This harrowing trial of terror, “Trapped” is the second year collaboration with Singapore Polytechnic students from the School of Architecture & Built Environment, who have transformed the interactive entertainment zone into a trial together with Sentosa 4D AdventureLand’s additional 4-D horror rides, presenting visitors with a different experience.

In addition, a unique technology has been introduced to enhance the Halloween experience. This is with another group of Singapore Polytechnic students from the School of Digital Media and Infocomm Technology, who were responsible for the creation of the interactive, augmented reality experience.

“Trapped” is about a once angelic coryphee who perished under the death curse by a jealous ballerina who now lurks in the depths of a haunted trail, preying on innocent souls. Dead ballerinas and evil priests also join the vengeful spirit in her reaping, roaming the premises in search for souls to seize forever.

Fear will be taken to even greater heights when a charming property agent who lures you to view a seemingly beautiful Victorian house up for sale, morphs into grotesque monster in an attempt to trap your soul. Discover a mansion plagued by living corpses, flesh-eating zombies and demons from the underworld in the nail-biting thriller 4-D ride, ‘Panic House’.

As you persist to fend for your soul and body, keep an eye out for virus-infected factory employees who will be out for fresh blood. Slay as many of the hungry undead without mercy in the interactive game of gore, ‘The Grip of The Undead’, before its too late.

Reflections

One month is not a long time, neither is it too short for memories to be formed and respect to be built.

The past one month was not an easy period for our church, in particular to the leaders who were in the lime light. But a few things jolted my mind when we stood together in rain or shine to ensure the operation was smooth. To make things as comfortable as possible for them because that is the least we can do besides praying.

Unless you have been summoned to attend court before, we will never be able to understand what or how the five of them will feel. Still only those who were there at the court, will testify that their faith and hope were not dashed. I was there, I have heard, I have seen. So don’t judge me for what I have experience personally.

One thing that truly humbled me in this period was the attitude of the people who came and helped in whatever ways they can. Not all of them are staff of CHC, in fact they are just volunteers who love their leaders and were willing to sacrifice their time, money, energy to be available. I kept asking myself what is the reason for them doing so day after day, without any promise of rewards or recognition. Again, I can only say it was for LOVE.

“When you embrace a leader, you embrace not only his spirituality but also his humanity. It is in a package.”
Dr A.R. Bernard

I will lift up both my hands and legs to say I am not a perfect leader. I have tons of weaknesses but thankfully some of my friends are willing to overlook all these and consider me as just a normal human. If we want others to honor/treat/respect us in a certain way, then we should be willing to honor/treat/respect others the same too.

During this trial, there was this group of core members who came everyday to ensure everything is okay. From the arrival to the departure of the five, we were there rain or shine. As early as 6am till late when everyone has already left, some of us still stayed behind to prepare for the following day’s needs. Dedication is contagious!

We are not the A-Team, but we do not need to be. We are just imperfect people working together with a common vision and passion. We are not dumb followers, but faithful and simple believer of one thing, God is faithful and He is the beginning & ending of our faith.

Love all of you for who you are. I look forward to the next tranche of ‘hard work’. I know we will be one step closer to our deliverance then.

Father-Daughter-Time With Joey

During the recent September school holidays, I was busy at work and felt a bit bad for not being able to spend some time with Joey. So riding on the Sentosa Buskers Festival period, we made a trip to the #HappyIsland. Just Joey and me. It was a wonderful Father-Daughter-Time.

While we were there, we visited this unique exhibition set on Silosa Beach. The exhibition showcased over 70 Instagram photographs that depict different notions of happiness. Thus, the hashtag #HappyIsland. It’s a month-long exhibition that will stretch from the pavement outside Coasters (near Beach Station) to the beachfront of Trapizza (at Siloso Point). Check it out if you are there.

Meet Titan the Robot (UK) – unique blend of comedy, street theatre and music performed by a robot. This robot has actually worked with superstars like Rihanna, Will Smith and Jackie Chan.

Where is Joey? Standing on the steps to watch, cos she was a bit frightened by the robot walking quite close to the crowd.

Part of the Buskers Festival was for people to interact with one another. And this year the organizers prepared two simple acrobatic tricks for us to try.

Joey tried the Spinning Plate trick but was not quite successful.

Maybe one of the reason the girls like to go out with Daddy alone is the fact I am more liberal about buying them their likes, ice-cream.

Thank you Joey for a wonderful day with Daddy!

滨海花月庆中秋 Mid-Autumn Festival @ The Gardens 2013

Events

Ever since Gardens by the Bay was opened, we have been regular visitors with the girls. We like the displays of the flowers in both the Flower Dome and Cloud Forest, especially when there is a special program like the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival 2013. In celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival, there will be an extension of operating hours and a 15% discount on admission tickets to the conservatories from 13 to 22 September 2013.

Mid autumn

During this period, the Flower Dome will be transformed into a new Mid-Autumn themed floral display. And we were there to experience it first-hand.

The girls were so excited to see the various cactus and “lantern flowers” such as Begonias and autumn-blooms like Chrysanthemums, Astilbes and Celosias.

The Flower Dome also features three striking dragonfly lanterns like this, which is perched amidst the field of floral display.

Coming to the Flower Dome is also a great chance to hone some of the photography skills of the girls. Look how serious they were in trying to get the best shot possible.
