Dining with AmEx (Part 2) – Impromptu Treat

Sponsored Review

Ever feel like having a slightly better lunch on a normal working day. Like after working hard, the body and mind is so drained, the next worst thing is to go to a crowded foodcourt and spent half of your lunch period on queuing for the food. That happens to me almost everyday. Everyday I feel I deserve a treat during lunch.

So on one of those “no mood for foodcourt” days, I decided to ask Kless and Joyce out for lunch at Mad for Garlic, since both ladies love the pasta and pizzas there (an excuse). What matters more is I can get 35% discount with my American Express Platinum card!

I’m a member of the palate privileges programme! With such privilege, I have to make use of it more often.

Joyce pondering which drink to take, we had Orangeade, Lemonade and Yujuunade.

We tried the new Mad Mexi Nacho Pizza – minced beef pizza with toppings of nacho chips and served with salsa. If you like both pizza and nacho, this is a MUST try! I simply love the crunchiness of it.

Our individual meal – Teriyaki Chicken & Pasta Combo, Garlicpeno Pasta & Garlicholic Rice. If you like garlic, this restaurant will be your favorite, but even if you are not so keen on garlic, the chicken and pizzas have more than enough choices for you to ponder about.

And talking about being impromptu, dinner can be equally random when Kless suddenly thought of eating crabs. So being the nice husband, I looked through the restaurants under the Palate Programme, and viola, I found the Dancing Crab at The Grandstand!

Actually we have been longing to visit this place for the longest time, but because it’s not exactly cheap, we shelved the idea a few times. But since with AmEx Palate Programme, there is a 50% discount for 2 diners, we went ahead and truly had a great feast of seafood within a very affordable cost.

 IMG_2083

The place was surprisingly crowded on a weekday night. Thankfully, we didn’t need to wait too long for our seats.

Take some time to appreciate the cool design around the restaurant, personally chalk writings are really my favorite.

If you are not convinced that the food is good, like what this signboard suggests, then give it a try for yourself. You won’t regret!

Since we have a slightly bigger budget (50% discount), we ordered the most expensive Combo Bag #1 (S$80). In the bag, you will get 1 Sri Lankan Crab, 300g Prawns, 250g Mussels, Potatoes, Corn, Sausages. Definitely good enough for 2 pax. So excited to see our food arriving in one of this bags, a bit like small kids waiting to see what is inside.

Da-da! The mystery in the bag! One other cool thing is how the food is being presented in this restaurant. You have to eat with your hands (don’t be afraid to get dirty), cos the food are poured out on the table. So cool!

 IMG_2130

We ordered some side dishes too, like this purplish Coleslaw. A great dish to have especially if you are ordering the Combo to be spicy.

IMG_2102 IMG_2105

We tried another highly recommended side dish by many diners on the web, the Crab Cakes and the Beer Batter Cajun Calamari.

Wash down the meal with either the Fizzy Lemonade or Pink Thyme Lemonade.

Pardon us for the gluttony, we ordered the Flaming Moonshine Tiger Prawns (min. 500g) (S$40) after seeing some of the diners enjoying it. Served with Wasabi Katsuo Sauce, Sweet Wine Chilli Sauce and Lemon Pickled Chilli Sauce, this is definitely worth the cost.

Prepared right before our eyes, we can almost hear the sizzling sound when she stirred the prawns in the ceramic pot. The smell of the wine is fabulous.

The final product.

Now, do you believe the earlier signboard about licking your fingers? I bet you probably do now. Total bill was about S$150, but with the Amex discount, we only paid S$75! Happy diners!
