Le Chasseur - A True Chinese Restaurant (Re-visited)

If you have not known, Le Chasseur is not a French restaurant. It’s an authentic Chinese (zi zhar) restaurant, previously located opposite Central (Clarke Quay), now shifted to Blk 27, Eunos Road 2, S(409387).

Just alight at Eunos MRT Station, walk through the Bus Interchange, reach the road and walk towards the right for 3mins.

Standing at the cashier is the Boss, Mr. Andy Lim. When we first visited the restaurant in Central, Mr. Lim was still wearing his chef uniform and handling all the preparation and cooking. Nowadays, he seems to have handed it over to his abled students.

Though a change of chef-in-charge, we were not disappointed by the standard of the food prepared.

As you can see the big round tables in the photo above, this place is definitely suitable for big family gatherings or with friends. The more people you have, the more you can order and try out. That’s our motto for eating.

Since we have only 4 in the family, we still didn’t miss out on some of the chef’s recommendations. For more of what is available, you can always refer back to my old post here.

Herbal Chicken
This is the kids’ favorite, the sauce is excellent with plain rice.

Signature Claypot Rice
Be sure to order the claypot rice, this is the small portion, just nice for 1-2 person. Give your order for claypot rice even though you are still browsing through the menu, deciding on what else to order. This is because the chef needs some time to prepare and the claypot rice is cooked on the spot, usual waiting time is about 15mins. All good food are worth the wait.

Sambal Ladyfinger & Stirred fried Beansprout
Once spicy for the adults, one non-spicy for the kids.

Grilled Cuttlefish
Another dish I have to highly recommend. Grilled to perfection, this is just good enough to eat it on its own. Sometimes I think this would be a good δΈ‹ι…’θœ.

Signature Tau Suan
Even if you are already too full, you CANNOT miss this! This is why I have loved Tau Suan and search for good Tau Suan everywhere I go. Just like the Claypot Rice, you need to order in advance so that the kitchen can prepare and get it ready for you when you want it served. I feel I will do it injustice to attempt to describe how good this is. SO, just go and try it for your own.

Road Safety Community Park

Some things never change. Some people never change. And some places never change too. Almost 30 over years back, when I was still in Primary School (when policeman wears shorts), I attended a road safety session at this amazing place along East Coast Park, somewhere near to the famous Big Splash swimming complex.

Back then, I was a motorist, pedaling my 4-wheel “car” around the Road Safety Park, trying my best to clear all the stations, making sure I don’t make any mistakes like driving pass the red light, driving on other people’s lanes, etc.

Fast forward to now, same place, same Primary School, but it’s Joey’s turn to be in the driving seat.

Of course the “car” has been upgraded.

The same nostalgic route card is still used for the students who are participating in the organized event.

Sadly, originally Joey was designated to be a Cyclist, but due to the rain and out of safety concern, all Cyclists were asked to be Pedestrians instead. But still, she is happy to just walk around the park and complete her course.

It must be more fun to be a Motorist.

Joey was very fascinated by the Shell Station. Everything is so real and it reminded her when we used to have a family car and how we visit the petrol station every now and then.

Hopefully, this trip will educate the young ones to be more courteous on the roads and learn the correct traffic rules.
Me, just another proud father where I can share a small bit of my history with my daughter.

Open to public for 24 hours, but some of the installations like traffic lights, rental of go-carts and bicycles will not be in operation unless the park is hosting a traffic game for a school at the same time. However, parents can still take advantage of the traffic facilities available, bring your own bicycles and teach your kids a little about traffic rules and safety.

Murals or Street Arts @ Waterloo Street

Another piece of art by Yip Yew Chong, together with Yuen Kum Cheong, they painted a series of six door panels murals depicting the scenes familiar to us who grew up with the old iconic National Library, MPH Building, Odeon Cinema around the Bras Basah vicinity.

National Library & MPH
The new National Library and all the Neighborhood libraries are great, well stocked with books, but none can be compared to the original old National Library.
The structure is unique and the memories of the red bricks are still so vivid.
Now the libraries double-ups as study areas for students but back then, the library was just purely for research and reading. Nostalgic.

Tried to explain to the girls that we used to have date stamps on the books to indicate the period of loan. They just shrugged their shoulders and gave me the “huh?” look.

Odeon Cinema & National Theatre
Do we still build buildings with red bricks? If Esplanade is the iconic “durian” building of current days, then the National Theatre was the iconic “diamond” building of the past. I believe I still have some old photos of my mother and her sisters posing in front of the building. (mental note to do some digging)

It was my dream to enter the NCO Club when I was still a NSF. But before long, I have given up on that idea when army life seems not so fun. Now, the building is gone and replaced by the very sophisticated looking South Beach.

Sundown Run with Skechers

Sponsored Review

Recently, our family had the chance to participate in the OSIM Sundown Run.

2016-05-28 19.22.08

It was such a blessing to be able to exercise and run with my girls (big & small). We are LIMITLESS!

2016-05-28 19.23.42

Prior to the run, Kless and I had the privilege to visit the Skechers’ shop and choose a new pair of running shoes for the race.

2016-05-27 14.24.30

My feet are generally wider than usual, and because of my bony structure, it is usually an headache to find suitable shoes for running. But thankfully with Skechers, there is not only one but two series of shoes that caters to wide front.

Performance Series - Skechers GoRun 4 & Skechers GoRun Ride 5

GoRun 4 (2016) – designed for speed with innovative performance technologies to promote a midfoot strike while offering cushioning and impact protection.

GoRun Ride 5 – increased resalyte cushioning for additional impact protection and response.

2016-05-27 14.25.06

My choice was the striking red GoRun 4 (2016) model.

The shoe is made of a knit material that provides just the right amount of stretch and comfort in wearing. It is also highly breathable and flexible. And like I mentioned earlier, the upper hugs the midfoot and opens up in the toe area leaving ample of room for wider foot like mine.

Looking at the sole, you will find the mid-section (red part), composed of foam that Skechers called Resalyte. This gives the shoe a firmer and more responsive feel when running. In simpler terms, the shoes gives me more ‘ground feel’.

At the heel of the shoes, there is a hole which is basically known as the quick fit.

 2016-05-28 19.20.42 2016-05-28 19.20.06 2016-05-28 19.21.28

It is a great running shoes for anything less than a half marathon. Beyond that, I would re-consider due to the softness of the sole and for a longer distance, may become slightly uncomfortable.

2016-05-28 14.27.21

Incidentally, the entire family is wearing Skechers for the Sundown run. Cool!

2016-05-28 19.22.41

And more than that, my first run with this new pair of shoes, I conquered 2 races at one event.
