Nickelodeon Slime Cup 2016

Media Invite

We have been invited for the Nickelodeon Slime Cup event for many years but every year the girls are not very keen to be “slimed”. But this year, Jayne did the Kuan Family proud and broke through for us!

2016-07-16 14.10.06

This girl is probably the bravest of us all, willing to always try the new things and not afraid to get dirty.

2016-07-16 14.11.06 2016-07-16 14.12.09

To be slime, you will first be ushered to the “throne” seat, which is under the Leaky Lincoln.

2016-07-16 14.06.53

The initial slime is just an intro, with a bit on the head and body (as shown in the picture above). Then Jayne moved on to the Slime Bowling Alley.

2016-07-16 14.17.32 2016-07-16 14.18.16

Of course ending in a pool of more slime!

Thankfully, there is a hose-down station for parents to clean up their kids.

2016-07-16 14.45.00

Thanks to the well-thought tour by the Nickelodeon organizers, we were able to understand some of the other stations for all to play includes some cleaner activities.

However, the main and real reason why the girls were so excited to attend this year’s Slime Cup event was to meet their TV personality stars from Make it Pop! Even the older new found fan got a photo-opportunity too!

2016-07-16 13.56.56 2016-07-16 14.02.32

Not only the Make it Pop! stars, the kids went crazy to see the other Nickelodeon stars!

Kudos to Slime Cup!

Marine Cove Playground

One of the latest happening places in Singapore has to be Marine Cove. Since its opening about 3 weeks back, thousands of families have already been there, either to eat or for the playground or just to check out the place.

2016-06-30 15.39.27

We are the same. And the playground has indeed wow us.

2016-06-30 15.37.40

Just a note for all parents, some of the slides are made of metal, so it’s not advisable to bring your kids to play when the sun is very hot in the afternoon. And of course, bring lots of water!

2016-06-30 15.38.37

As you can see, there are some spots of shade for waiting parents or my personal suggestion is to just chill out at CoffeeBean or McDonald’s while the children play (if they are old enough to take care of themselves).

2016-06-30 15.35.18

This gentle slope with the molehill pattern is a playing place for younger kids who are learning to climb and to enhance their motor skills.

2016-06-30 15.27.12

Some of the usual stuff you will find in playgrounds.

2016-06-30 15.27.36

2016-06-30 15.31.35

Spiderman ropes.

2016-06-30 15.30.50

Futuristic see-saw. You can adjust the black balls in the middle so that even an adult and a child can play with better balance.

2016-06-30 15.32.23

The favorite for Joey has always been the swing. There is even a chair-swing for the younger ones.

2016-06-30 15.33.27

Maze.

2016-06-30 15.36.16

For Jayne, her current favorite is the rock-climbing wall. Looks like I can plan a trip to the rock-climbing place at Kallang Wave Mall, maybe she can inspire me to overcome my fear-of-heights.

2016-07-04 15.00.31

One of the best part is the availability of the changing room and wash up restrooms just beside the playground.

2016-06-30 15.34.26

The playground will be crowded on the weekends for sure. So if you have the time, make a trip on the weekdays, that way the kids can enjoy more and you won’t be so stressed out too.

As we progress in life, getting more adequate in life, in social media greetings. Oddly, one form of greetings and well-wishes never seems to die out. The act of hamper gifting.

A hamper filled with snacks, chocolates and sometimes liquor, always portray a simple gesture of love, sincerity and thoughtfulness, yet at the same time not being too shabby.

So, I am here to introduce to you, the reinvented luxurious hamper from Floral Garage SG.

2016-06-28 23.04.51

And what goes best with chocolates? Wine. A bottle of Red.

2016-06-28 23.06.33 2016-06-28 23.07.27

Last but not least, to add the touch of love for the ladies, the hamper comes with a super nice pot of fresh flowers.
First time I see Lotus as part of a floral arrangement, quite nice and new.

McDonald’s Returns @ Marine Cove

Media Preview

McDonald’s @ Marine Cove is open!

First opened in 1982, McDonald’s in East Coast Park held many fond memories for its customers like myself. I remembered the iconic McDonald’s to be the very first place I asked Kless out for a date. We were suppose to book a BBQ pit in East Coast Park but when we reached ECP, we realized the office was closed and that was how we took a long slow walk along the beach and finally ended up in McDonald’s for our first date meal and chat.

After 30 years of service and memories, McDonald’s @ East Coast Park was closed in 1982 for redevelopment of the Marine Cove area. 4 years have past and now McDonald’s is again back! Bigger and better!

When the invitation came for a media preview of the new place, I knew instantly I will not want to miss this special place. And we did the same thing again, almost 24 years ago.

2016-06-30 15.25.24

We crossed from Marine Parade underground to East Coast Park, and took a leisure 10mins walk to Marine Cove, just the two of us, like the old times.

2016-06-30 15.39.27

It’s hard to miss the huge logo even from afar.

2016-06-30 15.43.22

And when I say it’s bigger, I really mean much more space catered to families and anyone who wishes to hang around. The outside sitting space is well cooled by the ceiling fans and as we waited outside for the event, I didn’t feel a bit warm or hot.

2016-06-30 15.45.11

The re-opening of McDonald’s Marine Cove marks a milestone in McDonald’s evolution in Singapore. It will feature a salad and dessert bar, McDonald’s Signature Collection of premium burgers, soups and new sandwiches, along with family-friendly amenities such as wireless charging stations, an area to park prams, and a shadow wall for children.

For those who still remembers the old layout before the close in 1982, you will remember there was a Regent Bowl just right beside the McDonald’s outlet. It is exactly the same building, refurbished to house the row of new eateries including McDonald’s.

From this picture, you are able to see the slanted ceiling that used to be the ceiling for the Bowling Centre.

2016-06-30 16.12.49

2016-06-30 16.13.56 2016-06-30 16.14.53

The new McDonald’s restaurant spans 8.439 square feet, serve customers over six counters, including one McCafe counter and a Dessert kiosk, and seven self-ordering kiosks.

2016-06-30 15.49.16

One special feature at McDonald’s Marine Cove is the Google Cardboard viewers. It allow customers to experience virtual reality in a simple and fun way, bringing them on a 360 degree virtual tour so that they can experience the unique offerings that are exclusive to the store.

2016-06-30 16.50.57

2016-06-30 15.46.00 2016-06-30 16.51.48

Catering to the growing need for “power”, there are ample wireless charging stations located around the restaurant so that our mobile devices can be sufficiently charged all the time.

For Android users, just place your phone on the aircharge disc and your phone will auto charge (as shown on the right). For all other users, just pull out the cable disc and you will still be able to charge your phone too.

2016-06-30 16.10.14 2016-06-30 16.42.41

So what can you expect in the new McDonald’s Marine Cove?

2016-06-30 15.48.28

The Salad Bar offers three different salad choices: Asian, Caesar and Classic Green. The Classic Green is available for $3.90, while the Asian and Caesar are available for $5.50 each. Customers have the freedom to further customize their salad, choosing from a range of add-ons, priced from $0.60 to $1.20 each.

Asian Salad (on the left)
Mixed salad greens tossed with cherry tomatoes, spiral pasta, corn kernels, and red apple slices topped with roasted sesame dressing.

Caesar Salad (on the right)
Iceberg and romaine lettuce topped with chicken fajita strips, shaved parmesan, chicken bacon bits, garlic croutons, and a drizzle of Caesar dressing.

2016-06-30 16.56.53

New range of soups will be available at the restaurant.

Mushroom Soup & Broccoli Soup, both are available for $4.50 each. I will vote for my favorite Broccoli!

2016-06-30 16.53.20 2016-06-30 16.54.13

There are also a wide range of sandwiches for you. All ranging between $5.50 to $6.70 each.

One of the main highlight for us was the Signature Collection of Premium Burgers. These will be exclusively available at McDonald’s Marine Cove.

Classic Cheese ($8.95 A la Carte)
The Classic Cheese burger features a deliciously seared Angus beef patty sandwiched between delicate slices of creamy cheese. Complementing the patty are juicy slices of tomatoes, sweet grilled onions and crispy smoky chicken bacon.

2016-06-30 15.56.10 2016-06-30 16.01.16

Spicy Tortilla ($8.95 A la Carte)
Featuring a delectable Angus beef patty with a slice of melted cheese, the savory combination is enhance by creamy guacamole, crunchy tortilla chips, whole leaf lettuce, and sweet and juicy slices of tomatoes and onions. The burger is then topped with a fiery spicy sauce.

2016-06-30 15.54.11 2016-06-30 16.02.16

Spicy Chicken with Apple Slaw ($6.95 A la Carte)
A crunchy and juicy chicken thigh meat is topped with peppery rocket and creamy black pepper sauce. This blazing combination is contrasted with a tinge of sweetness from the apple slaw.

2016-06-30 15.57.19 2016-06-30 16.00.11

Our couple choice for the day.
Her – Spicy Chicken with Apple Slaw
Me – Spicy Tortilla

2016-06-30 16.57.28 2016-06-30 16.58.13

Of course we didn’t end our meal without the sweet treats from the McCafe counter.

Affogato / Summer Delight / Belgian Liege Waffle with Avocado, Gula Melaka Syrup & Sundae

2016-06-30 17.05.01 2016-06-30 17.04.35 2016-06-30 17.03.59

Though we stay in the North, I am sure we will be back to this place very often.
